Misnomer

While attempting to find a new route to India, European explorers collided with the Americas. There they encountered people that they called Indians, and a delicious sweet fruit that they called pepper. They were wrong on both counts. They mistakenly believed the bell pepper plant was a relative of the pepper plant native to India that produces the coveted, spicy pepper corn.

This painting appears in the 2005 Food For Thought calendar.
