Price Be the Fairest It was a divine wedding until Eris, the highly miffed and uninvited Goddess of Discord, tossed out a golden apple inscribed to the fairest. Wedding guests Junno, Minerva, and Venus each laid claim to the apple. Paris, a mere mortal, was obliged to choose which of these celestial lovelies was indeed the fairest. Junno offered him riches, Minerva offered him glory, but Paris awarded the apple to Venus who offered him the fair Helen to be his wife. Helen's face launched 1,000 ships and an epic war, but that's another story. I offer this piece of advice. If you want to avert tragedy, do not start tossing out golden apples unless you have enough for everyone. This painting appears in the 2005 Food For Thought calendar.
