Pear/Poire

When my sister Joyce was sixteen she decided that Julia Child was a goddess to be worshiped. Maybe it was Joyce's preparation of Julia's recipe for pears in red wine sauce that first entangled France and pears in my mind or perhaps it was a brush stroke by Cézanne or Monet describing the sensuous curve of a pear that gave me that impression.

This painting appears in the 2005 Food For Thought calendar.
